Daufuskie Island, South Carolina

We love the beach and Wally loves golf, so I sent him on a getaway to check out Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. Daufuskie is a small island located just off of Savannah and Hilton Head, and the only way to get there is by boat. You can take a ferry from Thunderbolt Marina in Savannah or from Hilton Head or Bluffton. There are NO bridges. Therefore, there are almost NO people!

There are THREE golf courses and two are open to the public, Melrose (http://www.melroseonthebeach.com/) and Bloody Point, and one private, Haig Point. He booked a room at the Bloody Point Golf Club, which included the room, ferry, golf cart and a discounted round of golf. http://www.bloody-point.com/homepage/start_page.php

He got there in the late afternoon so after checking out his room and resting, it was time to eat. One of the drawbacks to living on a small island with very few people is very few restaurants – three in fact. He decided to try The Daufuskie Old Crab Co for dinner. It’s a casual laid-back kind of place. http://www.daufuskiefreeport.com/old-daufuskie-crab-company.htm

He discovered some night time visitors knocking on doors back at his room…

The next day was spent exploring the island on the golf cart.

The Iron Fish is a local metal artisan – LOVE his work! https://www.ironfishart.com/

And of course he had to try out Marshside Mama’s Restaurant for lunch. There doesn’t seem to really be anyone that serves breakfast on the island…

The next day was devoted to golf at Bloody Point Golf Club…

And then dinner at the third restaurant, Eagle’s Nest at Bloody Point… Yum – sea scallops! He texted me the picture and said they were the best scallops he’d ever eaten. I was green with jealousy at this point.

So now that he has checked out Daufuskie and decided it is worth our time to go back, I can’t wait to visit this fall. Beach, shells, wildlife, seafood, golf, tennis, horseback riding, boating, history and NO people (well the 400 that live there and give or take a few visitors). If you feel the need for people, restaurants or entertainment, Savannah, Hilton Head and Bluffton are just minutes away.
