Daufuskie Island, S.C., March 2014

For our stay on Daufuskie Island, S.C. this time, we had booked an oceanfront condo at the Sandy Lane Villas next to the Bloody Point Golf Course. We took the Bloody Point ferry over to island, and their friendly staff was waiting with golf carts to deliver us and other guests to our accommodations. We stayed at Ocean Breeze Villa I, which if facing the condos (see below picture), is on the far right of the condo units on the top floor but set back. It was very large and airy, very comfortable and inviting and we enjoyed our stay. The unit came with a nice golf cart, and  the condo rental management was quick and responsive to  inquire about anything we needed. Here is their vacation rental link on VRBO: http://www.vrbo.com/501109

The week of our stay we escaped the ice storm and frigid temperatures back in Tennessee, however it was chilly and rainy for most of the week on the island. But that didn’t deter us from walking the beach and wandering the island between the rain showers.

Wally golfed at Bloody Point and we ate several delicious meals with them. They had just started their spring menu so got to try some new additions. http://www.bloodypointresort.com/Daufuskie Bloody Point clubhouse parking

Wally on the driving range. My camera batteries died at this point so no more photos of the course, but see my previous Daufuskie posts for lots more photos. https://busybeetraveler.wordpress.com/2013/11/04/bloody-point-golf-course-dahfuskie-island-s-c/

Back on the beach, I loved finding daily treasures washed in. I threw all the living sand dollars and star fish back out to live a little longer. Daufuskie starfish buried

We lunched at Melrose on the Beach one day and both our meals were delicious. They have a nice dining room, bar and outdoor patio area that is usually busy when the weather is nice. It faces across the channel to Hilton Head Island. http://www.melroseonthebeach.com/Daufuskie Melrose restaurant exterior

The highlight of my island exploration this time was visiting the Daufuskie Community Farm. I love, love, loved it!

We’re going to the same condo later this month. The ferry rules from the Westin say no more than 2 carry-on bags per person…Were they strict about this? Thanks!

    • They have limited space to stow the luggage on the boat and probably would depend on number of passengers going on your travel days. I think they charged us extra for an extra cooler bag. Seems like we packed one suitcase with our clothes and one with food and had one rolling soft side cooler for cold food and drinks. We each carried a backpack which we sat at our feet on the boat. Check with Bloody Point to be positive though as they were docked at a different marina when we went and may have more passengers now. They are very nice and easy to work with. Definitely take any food essentials and liquor essentials as there are no good groceries or liquor stores on the island. Have fun! Be sure and visit the Community Garden and read all my blogs on the island for other tips.
